Welcome to BonsaiHub! Follow these steps to set up your account and start managing your bonsai collection.
Create Your Account
Sign up with your email address and choose a unique username. This username will be your public identity on BonsaiHub and appears in your profile URL.
Tips:
- Use a strong password with at least 8 characters, including uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
- Enable two-factor authentication in Settings for extra security.
- Add a profile photo and bio to help other members recognize you.
Add Your First Tree
Navigate to 'My Trees' from the sidebar and click 'Add Tree'. Enter your tree's species, give it a name, and fill in as many details as you can. You can always update this information later.
Tips:
- Upload a clear photo of your tree from the front to use as the primary image.
- Record the acquisition date to track how long you have been working on the tree.
- Set the USDA zone to get location-specific care recommendations.
- Use the style field to classify your tree (e.g., Formal Upright, Cascade, Literati).
Keep a Care Journal
Track your tree care activities by adding journal entries. Record watering, fertilizing, pruning, repotting, and other activities. This helps you maintain a consistent care schedule and learn from your experience.
Tips:
- Take photos before and after major styling or repotting sessions.
- Note the products you use (fertilizer type, soil mix, wire gauge) for reference.
- Record weather conditions that might affect your trees.
Join the Community
Browse and join local clubs to connect with other bonsai enthusiasts in your area. Clubs host events like workshops, shows, and meetups where you can learn and share your passion.
Tips:
- Start by joining a local club to meet experienced practitioners who can offer guidance.
- Attend events to see a variety of trees and styles up close.
